My pup...just to get my thoughts down for me...

Today, Timber is 20 weeks old and we had a follow-up at the vet today regarding his health concerns. He weighed in at 45.2 pounds, up 1.2 pounds from last Saturday's vet visit. So, he's still gaining weight, has tons of puppy energy and loves to play and "talk" but his appetite is poor. He is still sneezing, has a runny nose which is off and on discolored. After over 3 weeks of being sick and on antibiotics, I'm not pleased with his lack of progress and recent decreased appetite which was never a problem until about a week ago.

At this point, the vet has not made me feel any better about what is going on with my little man. I'm not sure how much faith I have in the quality of care *undisclosed vet clinic name* has at this location after discussing how hit and miss encountering quality vets are at the varied *said clinic* locations per a family member in the veterinary field.

Which leads me to the need to search for second opinions and scout for fee differences. At this point, *said clinic* can only provide the option of running basic blood tests and urine tests as well as doing a basic nasal swab culture....all adding up to a hefty bill over $400. I love my little guy, but this is getting more expensive by the week. I can't decide if I'm over-reacting to the symptoms or if there is truly something going on.

An option the vet mentioned would require referral out to a animal hospital to anesthetize him and scope his nasal passages for possible embedded foreign bodies in his sinuses or worse, fungus. If it's fungus, it has to be addressed ASAP otherwise risk it spreading through the thin barrier of tissue and bone to the brain. For those who don't have pets, going to such lengths to determine a cause doesn't come cheap....I don't have an estimate at this point, but you can bet it will cost well over $500.

Needless to say I'm beside myself with concern and quite conflicted. Since I haven't been working, I've had to ask my parents to assist and that kills me since they've already done so much for me since I left Jamie and Timber is my responsibility. Here's to praying I get that job so I can provide for my dog's care for what I hope is nothing serious and easily treated. Losing my little guy would break my heart.

Crossing my fingers

Finally after 2 months of searching, soliciting and applying...I had a job interview! It went well, got to check out the school and meet some kids...one classroom shared their snack with me, tuna sandwich! lol

There are no health benefits available with this job. However there is an upside...besides the obvious income that has been missing for so long! The school is about 10 minutes away from my house!!!! For a gal who struggles with getting up early in the morning, has trouble getting her a** out the door and lives in a city with too many cars crawling to work every day on the parking lot they call Highway 4......This is awsome!

Last time I had a job that was so close to home was in Chico! Coincidentially, this school's program is set up the same way as the program in Chico. Half-day programs, working hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Although this program is so much better! Instead of a mere hour between the morning and afternoon program...30 minutes of which is lunch time....there is 2 hours! Talk about a relief for teachers! Prep time is so valuable and difficult to come by.

Props to my youngest nephew's former preschool teacher for putting in a good word with the director and giving me the heads up about the position as soon as it opened up!

Cross your fingers....I go in on Monday for a couple hours to hang out. Perhaps I will know by the end of next week if I have a job...or better yet, Monday! :-)

Dog on a Trampoline

Playing with my boys and Timber

With much improved health and a clear, warm day........
It was time to play!
Call me crazy, but just had to see how Timber did on the giant trampoline!
He's always too intrigued with the boys when they play on it....
Watching from the side or even underneath!!

He did great! He just loves wrestling with his boys, doesn't matter where!

My nephews....always wrestling and playing!
Timber scouts "his boys" coming out to play....Yeah!
I said smell the pretty flowers! Geez! He has to eat everything!

He's giving me a wet willy!....and trying to eat my earring!
That's my little man, always has to see what his mommy is doing!
These boys love "their dog"!
Their mom is saying how they need their own "big doggy"
Their rescue, Waffles the 12-pound Yorkie just doesn't care to play.
Nothing beats wrestling with a 45-pound puppy!

New Gadget

After scrambling to save photos on random jump drives and borrowing space on my folks' laptop, I've finally got a bigger external hard drive! I got a Western Digital My Book - 1 TB!!! Got a damn good deal too! $30 off the price you find online.

Now my challenge is reorganizing my scattered photo and audio files so they are all in one place and easy to find. Here's to hours in front of the computer organizing and messing around. lol

Stuck at home....

Timber has been sick with an upper resperatory virus for the past 2 and a half weeks. He got a bloody nose at one point and I got worried after too many suggestions from friends with good intentions about what could be wrong. Sadly, this means no dog parks, doggy play dates or walks anywhere until the vet gives us the all clear.

I suppose it's only fitting that I too am now sick! Somehow I managed to catch me some strep throat! Blah! Started out with a tight throat, then slight fever and major body aches for days! Now the lovely pain with swallowing and swollen glands. I can't wait til it's over. For now, Timber and I have both taking our antibiotics. Timber has proven to be an even more awsome dog, he takes his medicine with no tricks, cover-ups or protests! I just stick in the back of his mouth and he swallows it! I sure got one hell of a dog!

I feel so bad for the little guy, all cooped up. He's got cabin fever, no doubt!! I'm headed that way too!

I Love Sea Otters!

Monterey Bay sea otter finds video camera, turns tables on photographer

Professional photographer Enrique Aguirre took this photo...(ENRIQUE AGUIRRE/Special to MediaNews)

Wildlife photographer Enrique Aguirre makes a point of visiting Monterey Bay once a month to capture images of herons, seals and sea otters.

But on Feb. 3, the San Francisco-based freelancer found himself on the other end of the lens -— with an otter apparently looking at the photographers through a video camera viewfinder.

Aguirre was on Capt. Yohn Gideon's Elkhorn Slough Safari boat with several other professional photographers when the group spotted an otter in the distance. Gideon steered closer as Aguirre framed the shot. Then, Aguirre noticed something odd.

"I was like, did I actually see an otter with a video camera or was I hallucinating?" he said.

The screen on Aguirre's digital camera soon confirmed what he'd seen: an otter floating on its back, video camera grasped in its paws, lens aimed at the boat of excited photographers. The humans had a bad angle, but Aguirre managed to snap a single clear shot before the otter dived, video camera in tow.

"He's the only one who got the photo," Gideon said.

Judging by the rust and seaweed adorning the camera, the otter probably wasn't getting much good footage. But Aguirre, who has photographed animals all over the world for more than a decade, said the otter aiming a camcorder was the "craziest" thing he's seen an animal do in the wild.

The otter never resurfaced, leaving the photographers to speculate on the make and model of the animal's gear. Aguirre suspects that the camera was dropped by a kayaking tourist and then picked up by the curious creature.

"I know I can go down there another million times and I will never see another otter with a video camera," Aguirre said. "I think I have more chance of a penguin coming up to me and actually speaking English."

Dog Park

Kings Park Dog Park, Brentwood
Timber was usure at first about the other dogs....but as the numbers of dogs reduced, he grew more comfortable and played harder. If he wasn't playing, he was hiding behind any pair of legs he was closest to!
